Social health refers to the intertwining relationship between society and health. In a more detailed perspective it describes the impact the different aspects of health like natality rate and mortality rate have on the development and sustenance of society. However this is not the same thing as medical sociology since most of this relates more to the aspect of social institutions and the impact on them. It also pertains to the intricacies of the relation between man, medicine and his environment, the identity and role of a physician which has been changing over the times. Some of the topics covered under the course of this subject are salient features of India’s health policy, role of mass media in health care, importance of medical social work in hospitals, Siddha system of education with its merits and demerits, hospital as a social organisation, role of nurses in healthcare, major issues concerning future of hospitals.
