Principles of electronics and communication paper contain three main sections with marks distribution of ten, fifteen and forty five marks in the first second and third section. The total marks are seventy and the time allotted is three hours as per the WBUT. All three sections are compulsory to answer with ample choices in each section. The candidate is required to answer any ten question in the first section out of ten to twelve questions containing one mark each followed by the next section where he or she can answer any three out of five or seven question carrying five marks each. The last section contains long answer questions with three or more sub-parts and each question carries fifteen marks and the candidate is required to answer any three out of five or seven questions provided.
