In order to become Assistant Commissioner of Police, you will have to crack civil service exam. Candidates who qualifies the exam and get selected for Indian Police Service are appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Police, which in some states is called Assistant Superintendent of Police.
So, as I have mentioned earlier that to become ACP, you will have to qualify civil service exam, to be eligible for it, you should be a graduate from a recognized university.
The age limit to apply for the exam is 21-30 years, the maximum age limit is, as always, relaxed upto 5 years for candidates from Sc/St category and 3 years for OBC category.
The examination is conducted by union public service commission and all other information regarding the civil service examination can be obtained from the official website of the same.

I want to join Police service, wether CBI , IPS OR CID. I heard these all are same . I Really want to know the difference between these fields . What is the criteria ? I have checked the main offical site http://www.upsc.gov.in/ but I am not getting proper answers. I would like to know when the Police service exam will held , How we can study? Any particular site or contact details where we can get all the informations. I have completed my Grad and doing Master but both I have done correspondence. Please help me and suggest me how I can go for Police service exam.

Civil Service examination is conducted every year by UPSC(union public service commission.
1. preliminary examination-conducted during the second half of may.
after qualifying preliminary examinaation, you need to appear for
2. main examination- conducted during the month of oct/nov
3. interview (for those who passed the main examination)

eligibility: 1. degree from a recognised university
2. age limit: min max
general- 21yrs. 30 yrs.
obc - 21 yrs 33 yrs.
sc/st - 21 yrs. 35 yrs.

attempts: general- 4
obc - 7
sc/st - no limit

After getting selected for IPS you will be under a probation period as an SP of a district in any state in which you have been allocated.
after the probation period of two years, you will be confirmed as a district superintendent of police which in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore are known as ACP.

After giving IPS exam you can become ACP Officer.

The UPSC examination comprises of two successive stages. IPS exam is carried out by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and constitutes two stages:

1. The Preliminary Examination and
2. The Main Examination.

Preliminary Exam comprises multiple choice questions aFnd is also a qualifying exam for appearing into second exam.
Main Examination which comprises a written exam and an interview.

For this exam You must be 21 years (minimum) and 30 years (maximum) at the time of taking exam. SC/ST/OBC and ex-servicemen are given exemption of 3 to 5 years in maximum age limit.

If you want to become an ACP(Assistant Commissioner of Police) Officer then you have to crack the exam of Civil Services conducted by UPSC.

Candidate who gets selected for IPS(Indian Police Service) after clearing the exam will be appointed as ACP also named as ASP(Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Eligibility Criteria for the Exam:

1. Graduate in any stream from recognized University.
