IPS stands for Indian Police Services and to become IPS, you just have to appeared for CSE(Civil services examination). This examination is Conducted by UPSC Every year and the notification of this examination will be Published in the employment newspaper or in the official website next year.

To apply for this examination, you have to complete your Graduate degree course in any discipline from a recognised University, Final year appearing candidates are also eligible for Civil services examination.

You must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years, upper age limit will be relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates, by 3 years for candidates of OBC.

There is no "Offline" Application form facility and if you are Interested then you have to fill the application form online only.

Number of Attempts: Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

The examination is conducted in 2 stages, preliminary and Mains and firstly you have to cracked the preliminary examination, you have to cracked 2 objective papers in Preliminary examination after this you are eligible for Main examination.

Main examination is Descriptive and you have to choose the optional Subjects. The selection are based on written test and Personal Interview. Please study for this examination as per the syllabus and Pattern and also try to solved some previous year papers. If you solved previous year papers, then you will get idea about the examination and you will be able to cracked this examination.

IPS - Indian Police Service

Eligibility Criteria

Age limit
21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs .

Number of Attemps
Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs.

Minimum Physical Standard
Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

Female 150 cm Pahari Female(general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm
Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

Exam Pattern :

All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages:

Preliminary Examination: It is of objective type, which is a qualifying examination.
Main Examination: It consists of written examination and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is held in May/June and the Main Examination in October/November.One must begin preparations of the main exam along with preliminary exam. This is because there is little time for the Main exam if one waits for the results of the Preliminaries.

IPS Preliminary Exam

There is two papers in preliminary exam.

Paper 1

General Studies
For this exam you will have must study current events, Indian history of India, global and Indian geography, Indian economics and polity. This paper will require you have an understanding of normal day to day issues. You are not expected to have specialized knowledge on any subject, but a common understanding is necessary. You must know current national and international events and have detailed knowledge of history of Indian political system, society and economy.

Paper 2

Optional Subject

For this exam, each candidate has to choose one subject from a wide list and prepare for it. This optional subject depends on the type of job that he or she wants to take as an IAS officer. One can choose anything from animal husbandry to philosophy, from law to political science. There are about 23 different subjects from which the candidates can choose their favourite subject. The syllabus to each of these subjects is very diverse.

Indian Police Service

If you want to become a IPS Officer, first you can crack the Civil Examination, civil examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission in yearly once

Eligibility Criteria for Civil Examination : -

** You must have a bachelor of degree in any stream from any recognized university

** Your age should between 21 to 30 years and age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates as per government norms.........

** You are should be a citizen of India

Selection Procedure :

** Preliminary Exam

** Mains Exam

** Interview...........etc....


Attempts for Civil Examination : -

Maximum 4 attempts for General Candidates, 7 attempts for OBC Candidates and no restriction for SC/ST Candidates

2.Number of Attempts

3.Restrictions on applying for the examination:

A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.

4. Minimum Physical Standard

The physical standards are important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc. I shall give a detailed a/c of this sometime.
Services are divided into technical and non-technical. Technical services are IRTS, IPS, DANI PS, CISF, RPF & other Police organization. The Medical standards for Technical Services are stringent.

Syllabus for IPS:
Papers I and II (Objective Type)

(i) Both the question papers will be objective type (multiple choice questions).
(ii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English. However, questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
(iii) Details of the syllabi are indicated in Part A of Section II.
(iv) There will be negative marking for incorrect answers (as detailed below) for all questions except some of the questions where the negative marking will be inbuilt in the form of different marks being awarded to the most appropriate and not so appropriate answer for such questions.

(a) There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (33%) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
(b) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happen to be correct and there will be same penalty as above for that question.
(c) If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

(B) Paper III, Paper IV and Paper V (Descriptive Type)
(a) Paper III :- English Language paper. This paper would be of Matriculation standard and qualifying in nature only. Its marks will not be counted for preparation of merit ranking.
(b) Paper IV :- Essay paper. It will comprise two essays, one on security aspect and the other on various developmental aspect of the society.
(c) Paper V:- General Studies paper covering various aspects like Elementary Principles of Public Law, State Policy, Fundamental Rights, Human Rights, Disaster Management, National Security etc.
