Harkamaya College of Education, East Sikkim
Harkamaya College of Education is a fully self-financed institution run by Rhenock Educational Society and it came into existence in the year 2003. The courses offered by the college are approved by National Council for Teacher Education and it is affiliated to Sikkim University.
Courses offered:
Right from the name of the college, it is clear that Harkamaya College is a teacher education college offering bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. The duration of both these courses is one year and the student intake capacity of the college is 100 for Bachelor’s degree and 25 for master’s degree.
Eligibility for Admission:
For entering into the B. Ed course offered by the college, candidates must be graduates under the streams of commerce/science or arts with not less than an aggregate of 50% of marks. The mark requirement is 45% in the case of students falling under OBC/SC/ST category. For entering into the M. Ed course offered by the college, candidates must have completed B. Ed course with a minimum aggregate of 55% of marks (50% for reserved category students.
Fee Structure:
The total fee collected by the college for B. Ed course is Rs. 85,550, which is to be paid in two installments, first installment of Rs. 45,550 during admission and the balance amount before the end of first semester. The total fee collected for M. Ed course is Rs. 75, 550, of which Rs. 40,000 is to be paid during admission and the balance amount before the end of first semester.
Aims of the college:
The college aims at offering teachers with a clear understanding of Indian culture, education and the education system followed in other countries. The college also aims at preparing prospective teachers who can bring about advancement in the society.
Laboratories in the college:
The campus of the college includes several laboratories like information and communication technology lab, geography lab, science lab, learning resource centre cum psychology lab and educational technology lab.
