The Gujarat State Government formed Bhavnagar University in the year 1978 and the campus of the university is spread over three locations in Gujarat. High quality of research and teaching is offered by the university and it is offering education through its 20 departments. The university is offering Ph. D, post-graduation and under graduation courses.

Bhavnagar University has grown both quantitatively and qualitatively over these years of its existence. The courses offered by the university have made strong marks of recognition. The campus of the university includes a library, which was formed in the year 1979. It has a collection of more than one lakh books and more than 175 journals.

In addition to library, the campus also includes a computer center, which was formed in the year 1990. The computer center is equipped with Intel Xenon Servers, IBM Servers and more than 25 desktop computers. The university is offering education under nine different faculties namely medicine, rural studies, management, engineering, education, law, commerce, science and arts. The university has plans to introduce new courses in the future.
