Mangalore University is located in a campus spread over 350 acres of land situated at a place called Mangalagangotri about 18 km away from the city of Mangalore. The university is awarded four star status by NAAC and 37 research projects are going on in the university. These research programs were funded by several funding agencies and the university has received a sum of around 6.5 crores from these funding agencies.

The university includes 144 affiliated, 5 autonomous, 17 education, 4 law and 2 constituent colleges under its jurisdiction and it holds the pride of being the first university in India to start under graduation degree courses in human resource development, leather design, garment design, fashion design and hotel management and post-graduation courses in yogic sciences and computer software. Mangalore University offers Master’s degree in geo-informatics, electronics, microbiology, business management and computer science and for the purpose of research in radiation physics and related areas, the university has installed variable energy microton accelerator facility in collaboration with CAT, Indore. Apart from CAT, the university has collaboration with several international institutions as well.

The university has obtained affiliation from UGC and it also facilities the affiliated colleges to secure grants from UGC for introduction of vocational courses, setting up of facilities like hostels, library, etc…The university campus includes a central library enabling students to access information online apart from physical access of books. In addition to this, the library also includes facilities like CD-ROM, press clippings, photo copying, teleconferencing, UGC-infonet services, etc…
