The exam is conducted by SSC on behalf of Food Corporation of India. B.Sc degree holders in any of the areas of Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or Agriculture are eligible to attend the exam. B.Tech./BE degree holders in Food Science/Agricultural Engineering can also attend the test.

Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology was established as a special fund project on November 17, 1962. The institute was established by United Nations Development Programme as a part of the India Metereological Department. The institute was provided an autonomous status by the Government of India and also a new name Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (earlier it was named Institute of Tropical Meteorology). This scientific institute is mainly responsible for the expansion of research in mtereology of the tropics. Admission to M.Sc course in Physics in Pune University is done through an entrance test. However, there is slight difference in the admission criteria of students who have completed their qualifying bachelor’s degree under Pune University itself. In their case, marks obtained in qualifying exam and entrance test will be counted equally for admission. Selection to students belonging to other Universities is offered solely on the basis of entrance exam. Out of the total of 90 seats available for M.Sc Physics, 30% is reserved for Pune University students.
