Various states across India have asked the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) not to give approval to new engineering colleges and management institutions. This request was made on the basis of increasing number of vacant seats in the engineering and management colleges. The number of such institutions has increased drastically over the past three years and this has resulted in a situation where supply exceeds demand. On the basis of the requests made by different states, the AICTE has decided not to give permission for the setting up of new engineering and management colleges from 2014 onwards.

Currently, the authority is involved in the construction work for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The authority was established with the aim of providing smooth development for the state of Delhi. The authority gots its preent name on December 30, 1957. The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) Limited was established under the Government of India. The company deals in the manufacturing and marketing of the fertilizers, caprolactam, engineering consultancy and fabrication of equipments. The company is also planning to dela in the petrochemicals, chemicals and phramaceuticals. There are two manufacturing divisions in the FACT units: Udyogamandal Complex and Cochin Division. UGC NET Exam is conducted for testing the eligibility of candidates for lecturership and JRF Scholarship. The pattern of University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) has undergone a change in the recent times. Till last year, out of the three papers in the test, one was a theory paper and the rest were objective type. But from this year onwards all the papers will be of objective type. Another important change is that there won’t be any negative marking.

B.Tech and M.Sc graduates need to appear for various entrance exams as a first step to qualify for the M.Tech course. The students have to prepare very well to crack the competitive entrance tests and to get into top Institutes.
All the students wish to get good quality education from well known education institutions. However some of them find it difficult to pursue a course in an institute of their desire as it is difficult for them to meet the educational expenses. In order to support the education of such students the government has introduced the provision for students’ loan. In most of the cases students are not properly aware of the provision for students’ loans and even if they are aware of it, they are not clear on the procedures to be followed for availing the loan. There are also instances where students fail to repay the loan.
India’s leading lender State Bank of India has came up with the decision to slash the interest rate for students’ loan by 1 per cent. This decision to slash the interest rates is likely to be followed by other banks offering education loans in the country too.
