Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) was established in the year 1979 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The company indirectly comes nunder the Government of India. The major objective behind the establishment of the company was to have a company which can produce Newsprint and Printing & Writing Paper using ‘bagasse’ ( which is a sugarcane residue ) as primary raw material. Over the years the company has emerged as the largest bagasse based paper mill in the world and not only in the country. Mr. Rajeev Ranjan is the present Chairman of the company while Mr. T. K. Tata Institute of Social Sciences was founded as a premier social science institute which was established in the year 1936. The institute was founded by Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. It was the first school of social work in the country. The university was given the title of a Deemed university by the University Grants Commission of India in the year 1964. Initially the institute was established as Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social work but later it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of journalism and Communication is called as Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya in the local language and it is a established in the year 1991. The university was formally inaugurated by the then Vice President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma on the 16th of January 1991 and the university was given this name in honor of the renowned Journalist, Poet and Freedom Fighter of the nation. The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of Indian Universities. It is not a conventional university with restricted jurisdiction and its jurisdiction is spread over the whole nation.
