Rabindra Bharati University came into existence in the year 1962 on the 8th of May and the university is located in the metropolitan city of Kolkata in the state of West Bengal. The university was established through the Rabindra Bharati Act 1961 of the Government of West Bengal as a symbol to mark the occasion of the Birth Centenary of the popular poet Rabindranath Tagore. The university is located in the Tagore family home at Jorasanko Thakur Bari. In the year 2001, the university earned accreditation and four-star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the main focus of the university is offer education in the fields of visual and performing arts.
