Indian Institute of Technology (Roorkee) was established in the year 1847 as a public university. The institute was formerly named University of Roorkee. The institute is located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. The institute was given the status of being an University in the year 1949. Later it was converted into an IIT in the year 2011. Mr. Analjit Singh is the present Chairman of the institute while Mr. P. Bannerji is the Director of the institute. The institute has an academic staff of total 342 personnel.
