Sports Authority of India was actually established in the year 1982 under Government of India. The authority came into existence as a successor organization of the IXth Asian Games held in New Delhi. The idea behind the establishment of the authority was to provide a helping hand in the promotion of Sports and Games of the Department of Sports. The authory also had the hold the responsibility of maintaining the Stadiums located in Delhi for the IX Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982.
