An Aquaculturist is some one who farms saltwater and freshwater organisms such as mollusks, fishes, shrimps, lobsters and aquatic plants etc. Those candidates who wish to become aquaculturists can begin their training at either the undergraduate or postgraduate levels.


Candidates who are interested in teaching can find jobs as lecturers in institutes that offer courses in aquaculture and fisheries. Those candidates opting for higher studies can go for research in this field. In addition to that, freshers can find employment in this field as fishery inspectors or deep sea fishery workers.

Qualifying exam

An entrance exam is conducted by those universities or college where courses in aquaculture are provided. Candidates can go for the course in aquaculture after the completion of their higher secondary class. They must have studied biology.

Who is eligible to apply?

Candidates who wish to become aqua culturists should be Indian citizens. They must be atleast 22 years at the time of applying. The basic qualification required for the candidates is a pass in the class 10+2 with PCB. For those candidates who wish to pursue the subject in the Masters level should have finished the B. Sc (Bachelor of Science) degree in Biology with Zoology as one of the topics.

How to prepare for the exam and interview?

Candidates who are applying for this course must have a good idea about the subject. Those students who are appearing for the written examination can prepare themselves by reading articles related to aquaculture and fisheries.

Both personal questions and queries relating to the topic will be asked at the time of the interview. The aspirant’s must make sure that they answer straight to the point when the questions are asked.
