Post graduate diploma of one year duration is not a valid degree to apply for National Eligibility Test.

The eligibility criteria for NET exam:

Academic qualification: Master's degree in any stream from a recognized university.

Minimum percentage of marks required is 55% in master's degree.

There is no upper age limit for lectureship. It is 28 years for Junior Research Fellowship.

The full form of NET is National Eligibility Test and that of SET is State Eligibility Test.

Eligibility criteria for NET/SET:

1. Post graduation in any stream from a recognized university. One year post graduation diploma candidates are not eligible for NET exam.

Two years post graduation with minimum of 55% marks in master's degree is required for NET/SET exam.

3. There is no upper age limit for NET/SET for lectureship.

According to my knowledge you must have a Master’s degree which is of 2 years to be eligible for NET/SET entrance examination.
Post- Graduation Diploma is of 1 year duration that is why it may not be accepted or may be.
So don’t take risk and without wasting time you should get admission in Master’s degree in any stream.

NET stands for National Eligibility Test conducted by CBSE(Central Board of Secondary Education) on behalf of UGC(University Grant Commission) for recruitment of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Indian universities or colleges.

Candidates must have completed their post-graduation to appear in examination.
There is no maximum age for appearing in NET.
Candidates need to appear in NET only in the subject of their post-graduation.

Rural Development is not mentioned in the list of the list of subjects for NET but you can appear in NET through Course Code number 12 named MBA or you can choose Sociology as subject.

You can not apply for National Eligibility Test after completion of post graduation diploma in rural development.

The reason is that you have done one year master's degree which is not allowed. You need to pursue two years bachelor's degree to become eligible for NET exam.
