Admission to Indian Institute of Technology is done through Joint Entrance Examination.

JEE is conducted by CBSE.

It has two stages:

JEE Main: There are three consecutive attempts including year in which you appear for board exam of 12th.

JEE Advanced: You were eligible for 2015 and 2016 exam.

You are no longer eligible for JEE exam.

IIT entrance exam that was earlier called IIT-JEE exam is now called as JEE Advanced Exam.

To apply for this exam, firstly you will have to qualify JEE Main Exam that is conducted by CBSE every year.

After qualifying JEE Main and coming in top candidates to appear for JEE Advanced, you can apply for JEE Advanced Exam.

A candidate can appear for only two consecutive times in JEE Advanced Exam.

The very first thing I would like to let you know that the official name for IIT entrance examination is JEE ( Joint Entrance Examination ) which is held once every year by CBSE.

JEE is conducted in two stages which includes JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced and in order to get admission in IITs a candidate has to qualify both stages of JEE.

Now, as far as you are concerned about the maximum number of attempts allowed for clearing JEE then it is three in case of JEE Main and JEE Advanced )with the clause that these attempts begins from the year in which the candidate has qualified his/her Class 12th board examination).

So, having completed your Class 12th in 2015, the last opportunity you had to appear in JEE Advanced for admission in IITs was in 2016 and for appearing in JEE Main was in 2017. So, under normal circumstances you are not eligible for appearing in JEE anymore.

For more details and FAQs related to JEE you can refer to the link www.jeemain.nic.in.
