Well,IES exam mainly focuses on four categories:
1.civil
2.mechanical
3.electrical
4.electronics and telecommunication.

First you have to be in one of these branch from any recognized university and must have passed the degree course having the proof of passing out. You can try for more than 2 or 3 attempts but the minimum age qualification is 21 to 30 years as on august of the year.The notification usually comes in january and february of the year.

According to the government of india rules general category candidate can appear 4 times only,OBC can appear 7 times and SC & ST candidate have no limit for appearing.

Age Eligibility:

You need to be between 21 years to 30 years on the 1st August, 2011.
Age relaxations exist as per Govt. rules.

Academic Eligibility:

You must be a graduate in Engineering from a recognized university.
Even Final year students can also appear in IES exam, provided he/she can provide the proof of passing the exam when IES exam (Written) result comes out, which is around December 2011.

hi basically there is age limit to write ies exam

the age limit is 21-30 yrs as on 1/8/05 notice but there is a relaxation of upper limit for sc/st and obc candidates
hence if you got reservation then any no. times you can write
but if dont have then till 30 you can write the exam

one time on one application. in case of disqualified you appear the exam many times

Age eligibility for IES exam is :21years to 30years
In this period for your age you can apply for the IES exam.
But we talk about to the number of attempts for the IES exam:

Well friend,

You have chosen right career because You can find IES exam statistics that close to 30% -40% people who applies for IES exam, does not appears for the IES exam.

Also majority of the screening is done at the Written test - only 1.5% - 3% of those who writes the exam are called for interview. However, once you are called for the interview, chances of being finally selected is pretty good- 30%- 40%.

And yes you are eligible if your age still between 21 to 30 years.

In this age time you can write any time and at any age.Don't worry !!

You can write as many times as you can for the IES & engineering services exam as there is no limit for the number of attempts.

There is no limit for the no. of times to write IES exam......but there will be age limit

It is wiser to be mentally ready for several attempts as cracking the Civil Services Exams is a tough nut to crack the first time around...


A maximum of 4 attempts is permitted to every candidate
and 7 to those belonging to Other Backward Classes.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the case of SC/ST candidates.

All this provided if you are still under the age limit.

the attempt limits for the IES exam are different for the different categories.

1) general category candidates are allowed to give 4 attempts

2) OBC category candidates are allowed to give 7 attempts

3) there is no restriction of the attempts on the SC/ST category students.

graduate student having age between 21 to 30 years are eligible for ies exam.

How many times can I appear IES exam?

General candidates is given to the four times.

OBC candidates is given to the seven times.

No limits for SC/ST.

I.E.S(Engineering Service Examination).

For I.E.S,the candidate must have a engineering degree from any recognized University.
Some engineering categories are candidates eligible.

The categories are

Those who are appearing in the final year of examination may also eligible.

You not mention then branch name
1.Educational Qualification
b.tech any one of the following branch :
Electrical Engineering.
Electronics & Communication Engineering.
Civil Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering.

2. Age Limit = The age must be between 21 to 30 years at
the time of appearing of this examination. The age relaxation
is also applicable for the candidates belong to reservation category.

Computer Science and Information Technology branch are
not eligible for the IES examination.

1) You should be a B.Tech degree holder or in the final year of your B.Tech in any of the following streams
