You can appear as many times as you desire. Many students appear for this exam from the pre final year of graduation. Since the past papers are available you should solve them for preparing for this exam. You will be able to assess your score and also can understand the weak areas. To score well in this exam both speed and accuracy are a must.

CAT Eligibility

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree.

In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2012 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2012) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.

IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the website
www.catiim.in.
Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs.Prospective candidates must maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process.

If you are eligible for the above steps then you are eligible to write the exams any number of times. it is recommended to take as many online tests as possible to ensure your better performance and reduce the number of times you attempt the CAT exam..

All the best…

CAT Exam Details:-

The topmost B-Schools in India conducts the CAT examination for those students who wants to pursue Post Graduate Level Management Programme frm the IIM's. Full form of CAT is Common Admission Test which is an all India level test. With the CAT scores you can also look to seek admission in other top B-
Schools in India apart from the IIM's.

To sit for the CAT exam you need to be a graduate first. You can complete graduation in any discipline of your choice. You need to secure 50% of marks at UG level.

SC/ST students needs to be secure 45% of marks in aggregate since there is percentage relaxation for them.

But it should be remembered that for a few courses the eligibility criteria of general category students usually varies from one institution to the other.

Since there is no age criteria therefore one can sit for this exam whenever he/she wants to. There is no restriction on the number of permissible attempts too.

Examination Pattern:-

Since there is no definite syllabus to follow therefore its hard to give specific help regarding that. But following areas should be dealt with lot of importance:-
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Verbal Ability
  • Data Interpretation
  • Data Sufficiency

In the question paper usually there will be two sections: 1) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and 2) Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning. The total time limit is 140 minutes and for each section you will get only 70 minutes each. There will be a timer to guide you. Within this short span of time you need to answer 30 questions each.

When the timer goes off the second section questions will come on the screen and you wont be able to go back to the previous section anymore. So every answer should be answered very cautiously. 15 minutes reading time which will be given at the start of the exam should be utilized properly.

Generally the cost of the application form for general category candidate is Rs. 1600 and Rs. 800 for SC/ST candidates. The application form can be attained by sending a demand draft in favor of the IIM. Along with that a self-addressed envelope of 12"*10" needs to be sent as well.

Hope this helps
