AICTE stands for the All India Council for Technical Education. This is the national level council for Technical education established under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Department.

The main function of AICTE is to accredit post graduate and undergraduate courses under specific categories.

AICTE gives approval to institutes offering courses in:

>>Engineering.

>>Management.

>>Pharmacy.

>>Master of Computer Applications.

>>Architecture.

>>HMCT.

Till 2012-2013, there were 8562 institutes approved by AICTE for different courses mentioned above.
