Syllabus for JEST [Joint Entrance Screening Test] is as follows:
Classical Mechanics: Kinematics, Newton's laws, Work and Energy, Oscillatory and Rotational Motion, Dynamics of Systems of Particles, Central Forces and Celestial Mechanics, 3D particle dynamics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, Non-inertial reference frames, Fluid Dynamics. Electromagnetism: Electrostatics, AC/DC currents and circuits, Magnetic Fields in free space and matter, Lorentz force, Induction, Maxwell's equations and their applications, Electromagnetic waves. Optics and Wave Phenomena: Wave properties, Superposition, Interference, Diffraction, Geometrical optics, Polarization, Doppler effect. Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics: Laws and Processes of thermodynamics, Equations of state, Ideal gases, Kinetic theory, Ensembles, Statistical Concepts, Calculation of thermodynamic quantities, thermal expansion and heat transfer. Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics: Fundamental concepts, Solutions of the Schrodinger equation for square wells, harmonic oscillators, and hydrogenic atoms, spin and angular momentum, wave function symmetry, elementary perturbation theory. |
