After completion of Diploma in Civil Engineering I want to do B.Tech or BE in Civil Engineering. I read that a Diploma candidate is eligible for Lateral Entry Scheme into B.Tech or BE. What does this mean?

A diploma candidate is eligible for lateral entry scheme into BTech or B.E.

Lateral entry student is the one who directly enters in the second year of engineering .He/ she must have completed a diploma in their respective branch to be eligible for the lateral entry program. After completing their diploma, they write a special examination for enrollment in the institute.

Under Lateral Entry scheme, a candidate is allowed to get admission directly in second year of engineering course after diploma in Engineering.

The candidate has to qualify the entrance test called lateral entry entrance test or some universities give admission on the basis of merit.

Lateral entry means the admission will be directly in the second year of the the course program. You do not have to take admission in first year. You will be directed to second year of any undergraduate program.
Basically for admission in lateral entry, some criteria must be fulfilled by the candidate. Example one should have completed the BSc or diploma.
Every college has different criteria for admission to lateral entry.

The diploma holders in engineering are eligible to apply for B.Tech course through Lateral Entry Sceheme.

Lateral entry means diploma holders get admission directly in second year of engineering course.
