To join as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), you need give the UPSC SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination). The paper pattern which is followed for the exam is as follows,

-> Paper I - General Ability Test (English, General Knowledge and Psychological Test) - 2 hours - 200 marks

-> Paper II - Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) - 2 hours - 200 marks.

-> Paper III - Mathematics - 2 hours - 200 marks.

Check page No:4 in the attached latest SCRA exam notification 2014 to get to know the syllabus in detail which will be based on your Class XII (CBSE syllabus). Once it's cleared you will be called in for the next interview round. To know more on the SCRA exam check the attached notification.
