A company secretary is one of the main officers on the board members of any company. In order to pursue a company secretary career, there are certain aspects that aspiring company secretaries should be aware of. Few such aspects include- the eligibility conditions or who can pursue a career in this field, the types of company secretary courses offered, institutes extending these academic programs, admission procedure, time of entrance examination and finally the job prospects. Information about these important aspects has been dealt with in this write up. Read on to know more about each. Company Secretary Eligibility The Institute of Company Secretaries of India or ICSI conducts the company secretary course in 3 parts, namely, Foundation course, Intermediate or executive course, and Final or professional course. Eligibility for Foundation Course - The minimum educational qualification required to apply for a company secretary foundation course is 10+2 in any stream. Students who have appeared in their class XII exam and are waiting for their results are also eligible for the course. However, the final year students have to produce pass certificate within 6 months from the time of admission. The foundation course is of 8 months duration. After completing the Foundation course, the students can apply for the Intermediate course. Eligibility for Intermediate/ Executive Course - Gradutes of all streams except Fine Arts are eligible for a company secretary executive course. Candidates who are qualified in Foundation course and are below 17 years of age can also apply for executive program. ICAI and ICWAI students, graduates, post graduates can take direct admission into Intermediate without having the need to complete Foundation course. Eligibility for Final/ Professional Course - After having qualified in the Intermediate course, a student is eligible to study the final course. Company Secretary Training - A student who has passed the executive or professional course has to undergo the management training of 15 months either in the companies sponsored by the institute or under the guidance of a Company Secretary in practice. Course Details of Company Secretary Program The course content of company secretary essentially comprises the following topics, which are taught at different levels (Foundation, Intermediate, and Final). They are- Industrial Relations Human Resource Management Foreign Collaborations & Joint Ventures WTO-International Trade Banking and Insurance-Law & Practice Corporate Restructuring Systems & Corporate Secretarial Practice Commercial & General Law Financial Accounting Company Law Management Information Systems Management Accounting Business Environment & Basic Economics Company Secretary Admission Admission for a company secretary course takes place round the year. The admission procedure consists of two stages: registration and an entrance exam. The students are required to fill an application form that can be obtained on payment of 200 rupees cash or 250 rupees by DD payable to Institute of Company Secretaries of India New Delhi. After successfully registering themseleves, the candidates have to appear in an exam, which will be held in the months of June and December for both foundation course and intermediate course. The candidates who are 12th passed can apply for the Foundation course exam while the graduates can directly apply for the internediate program. Company Secretary Entrance Exam The Company Secretary or the CS entrance exam is conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. The CS exam can be taken twice in a year, in the months of June and December and the registrations for the same have to be done within 25th March and 25th September respectively. The registrations are open throughout the year. The registration can be done online or one can also the registration forms from the ICSI branches. The online application forms can be downloaded from the institute's official website http://www.icsi.edu/ Candidates who submit the forms late will have to pay a late fine. Entrance Exam Fee For one module: INR 750 For two modules: INR 1,500 For three modules: INR 2,250 For four modules: INR 3,000 |

FINAL COURSE Eligibility: A student is admitted to the Final examination only after a minimum period of nine calendar months since his passing the Intermediate examination.
