GATE is an All-India Examination conducted by the Seven IIT’s and IISC, Bangalore, on behalf of the MHRD Government of India. It has no relation with IES exam which is conducted by the UPSC. This Engineering Services Examination is based on the two levels Written Test and Personality Test. The Eligibility criterion for IES is an Engineering degree in from a recognized university or MSc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects also acceptable for certain Services/posts only.

Eligibility for IES

IES(Indian Engineering Service) is entirely different from GATE and has no links with it..

IES exam is conducted every year by the UPSC and the interested candidates should fulfill the following criterion :-

1) You must be a B.Tech degree holder or in the final year of your B.Tech from any of the following streams
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electronics and Communications Engineering
Electrical Engineering

2) You should be within the age limit of 21-30 years for general category,21-33 years for OBC and 21-35 years for SC/ST

The maximum number of attempts permitted for the general category is 4,for OBC its 7 and for SC/ST there is no limit..

all the best..

With Warm Regards

it is not at all necessary to appear for GATE before IES EXAM....

but if you give gate exam,it is very useful to crack ies exam... bacause syllabus of both is similar....

eligibility criteria for ies exam
=>candidate should get atleast 65% in engineering
it offers for only four courses
=>ECE
=>EEE
=>MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
=>CIVIL ENGINEERING
=>SHOULD BE FROM INDIAN NATIONALITY

Hi friend,

For the IES GATE exam is not for this.

So you can do IES if you have engineering degree.

Best of luck

Re: Eligibility for IES if I am not appearing for GATE exam?

yes why not?????
GATE is not related to IES.
GATE is for those who wants to do M.tech or higher studies..
A b.tech degree is the only educational requirement for IES.
so you are absolutely eligible for IES.

Re: Eligibility for IES if I am not appearing for GATE exam?

u should have done b.tech degree in mechanical or electric and communication branch. computer science students are not allowed and for applying in ies i.e endian engineering services ther is no need to apply for gate . so directly fill up the form for ies and crack that exam. all the best

It is not at all necessary to appear in the GATE exams for appearing in the IES exams.To apply for an IES examination the candidate must have an engineering degree or equivalent from a recognized university with the age limit of 21 to 30 years.So you do not have to appear in the GATE to sit in your dream exam.

yes ofcourse...
GATE exam is not for doing IES...
You need to qualify its eligiblity criteria...i.e. you have to be a graduate..then UPSC exam is the only way to get into IES..
