Re: Can i apply for IES exam, I am doing electronics and instrumentation engineering?

IES stands for Indian Engineering Services. Every year UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) is going to conduct IES Exam to recruit the candidates into following Engineering Services
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

You have to choose any one of the above mentioned category while applying for this Exam.

The selection procedure would involve
IES Exam
Interview

As you are pursuing, your Engineering Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, you are eligible to apply for this Exam only after completion of your course.

So, you better start preparation for this exam now itself so that it will be easy for you to crack this Exam.

My suggestion for you would be to apply for Electrical Engineering category for this Exam as you have knowledge regarding Electronics in your Engineering course.

Here is the age limit for the candidates to apply for this Exam.

For General category : 21-30 years
For OBC category : 21-33 years
For SC or ST category : 21-35 years.

Make sure that you should be in the above mentioned age groups as per your category.

Have good preparation for the Exam and crack it.

Wish you all the best.

Re: Can i apply for IES exam, I am doing electronics and instrumentation engineering?

See the list branches for Engineering Services Examination :-
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
So,my point your not eligible to write the examination.Because your stream is not in the above list.If you have any branch in above list. You are eligible to apply for this examination.

My suggestion is go for the Civil Service examination. For Civil Service the candidate must have a graduate degree in any Discipline.

The applicant age should between 21 years to 30 years.

Those in the final year of examination can also apply for the examination.

dear friend,
yes you can give ies exam but you will have to apply as electronics and telecommunication engineer because only four streams of b.tech are eligible for giving the exam. these are mechanical, civil, electrical and electronics and telecommunication.
you will not find any difficulty in giving the exam because most of the subject of electronics and instrumentation are same to electronics and telecommunication.
the age limit for the exam is 21 to 30 years which can increase to 35 years for sc/st students.
for more details regarding the exam, you can visit

Dear friend,

you can obviously apply for IES examination.

The examination is conducted for the branches of :

<2>Mechanical Engineering

<3> Electrical Engineering

<4>Electronics and telecommunication Engineering.

If you have completed or in the last year of any of the above-mentioned engineering courses then you are eligible to apply for IES.

This exam is conducted by Government of India to employ people in various engineering organizations, such as Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), Central Engineering Service (CES), Military Engineering Services (IDSE) etc.

yes you can appear for IES examination but you can not give paper from instrumentation subject because there are only 4 branches available for papers like 1- Mechanical 2- Civil 3- Electrical 4- Electronic and telecommunication.

i think electronic and telecommunication is better to choose for paper because from this branch you will get many subject related to instrumentation.
