Re: Tips to choose optional subjects for IAS examination?

You must a clear vision on your aim
be fully confident and precice in your descision
have a choice of subject which which u feel comfortable in

mission 1

prelims (Now CSAT)..No optional selection is required for this stage because all the candidates will have similar syllabus

mission 2

Mains , in this you have to select the optional subjects according to your interest

the selection of the optional subjects should be completely based upon your interest

I personally like these optionals

->Psychology

->Geography

->Economics

you may not like these because your tastes and preferences will not coincide with mine

so it will be good if you select your optionals

You can go through the examination code for Civil Service Examination in the official website of UPSC

i.e.

www.upsc.gov.in

good luck...

Re: Tips to choose optional subjects for IAS examination?

Hi Friend

There is no optional subject in UPSC Exams that are related to Computer Science Engineering.

But as in your branch you have studied lots of math so i recommend you to take Math as optional subject. and second optional subject you can take from Physics and Chemistry or you can choose from Indian History and Geography that are arts Subjects but these are easy to understand and easy to crack.

All the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Tips to choose optional subjects for IAS examination?

first know the basics of the IAS examination

IAS is an central service and also deeply regarded as d most prestigious job..

Like this service there are other 24 services for which a common entrance test is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)

The main basic eligibility criteria for Civils Service Examination

->Candidate must have 21 years of age

->Candidate must complete at least degree from a recognized Indian University

this is all about the basic eligibility criteria of CSE

As per your qualification if you have completed Degree then definitely you are eligible for the exam..

and coming to the examination pattern

it is the three stage examination pattern

i.e.,

STAGE 1

prelims (Now CSAT)..No optional selection is required for this stage because all the candidates will have similar syllabus

Stage 2

Mains , in this you have to select the optional subjects according to your interest

the selection of the optional subjects should be completely based upon your interest

you may not like these because your tastes and preferences will not coincide with mine

so it will be good if you select your option

Good luck...................

Re: Tips to choose optional subjects for IAS examination?

Dear friend
  • Be very particular about the subject you choose for prelims, as you will be appearing for an objective type of paper. History, maths, geography may prove to be very scoring.
  • Choose subjects which have availability of books, reading material and guidance.
  • In recent years engineering subjects like civil and electrical can be chosen, giving BEs and IITians an edge.
All the best........

Tips to choose optional subjects for IAS examination?

hello sir.i,gurinderbir singh,am doing b.tech from chandigarh engineering college,landran (mohali).my stream is INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (2nd year).i am very strongly interested in civil services,its both my hobby and passion.my academic background is good,95% in 10th (ICSE) and 82% in +2.i have good reading habits too.
my only problem is which subjects to go for?i cant go for maths or science subjects.only arts subjects like philosophy,psychology,socialogy,history,geography etc suit my interests.i also dont have much time to devote to these each day.please guide me which subjects to choose,and what are the scoring expectations in each?
how much is public administration a good choice?
and,is coaching essential for the preparation of civil services?
i shall be very thankful to you for your kind reply.
regards,
gurinderbir singh.
