Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

Yes, IAS is open for every Indian graduate, irrespective of his/her stream of study, with equal opportunity (equally tough - the syllabus is crafted such that no particular stream gets an edge over the other) for all.

You can refer to the prospectus of the UPSC exam for details like examination pattern, choice of subjects.

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

here your question is totally concerned about my wish, but as a matter of fact you are the one who is going to appear for the IAS exams and not me so my suggestion for you may be or may not be as fruitful in terms of applying it in practice but you have to follow some simple steps without getting nervous. so i will suggest you in very simple way irrespective of whomsoever tells you whatever about the preparation just choose the subject as per the priority i.e
1. your intrest.
2. if you think you can handle the subject, then go for it.
3. if you like technical studies, then opt for it.
4. if you don't then go for some simple subjects like literture ones.
5. & if you are totally confused then best option is look for a good IAS coaching centre and ask them which subject they can teach and you can grasp..
that is the last way out for choosing a subject in a total mind black out situation.. ihope that will help you to some extent ,, bbye take care and good luck..

Dear pal,
IAS is the administrative service the vacancy for which is filled by the union public service commission.
The aspirant need to satisfy few basic requirements before applying for the exam.
1. The aspirant should have completed bachelor degree from a recognised university. Both three and four year degree course aspirant are eligible.
2. In addition to the above the aspirant must be below 30 in card for general aspirant. With 3 years relaxation for bc, mbc aspirant. The age relaxation is five years for sc and st aspirant.
The exam levels include

So you try to concentrate more on aptitude test And clear it. Optional papers are available for aspirants from different branch to choose it. All the best

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

Yes
Graduate in any discipline is eligible to give IAS exam .
Now the pattern of the Exam has changed for the prelims . In prelims earlier candidate has to select optionals subjects but now every candidate has to give Paper-1 & 2 of prelims. All the candidates now will be judged on the basis of common platform in prelims.....

The Mains has the same pattern which was earlier here candidate has to select the optionals ....
you can choose Mathematics, Geography or electircal engineering as a subject for optionals.......
Best of luck .......

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

Hello Friend,

You can appear in UPSC IAS Exam after completing your engineering or when you will be in Final year of the engg. course

The eligibility for IAS Exam is graduation in any discipline and age limit is 21 to 30 years.

For optional subject choose that subject:
1. In which you are interested and is familiar with
2. Easy to understand
3. Which is comfortable for you

My suggestion will that you can choose Public Administration or History or Geography or Political Science. Since you are from science background you can also choose physics or mathematics as optional subjects for Mains Exam.

For your information there will be no exam of optional paper in UPSC IAS Exam 2011 and after 2011.

For details please visit www.upsc.gov.in

Good Luck.

if you are choosing to do ias then your engineering degree will be wasted .so if you are in dilema then it would be better for you to immediately join coaching for that . there you will know the paper pattern and tricks to solve question . they will help to choose your extra subject. in my opinion you should choose the subject according to your interest. and so ias only when you feel that you will not feel any problem.

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

Hello friend,
The first important factor is ..the exam structure is going to be changed from this year. so first have a look at it. Other fact is that if u want to get through CSE , start focousing on general knowledge , become a avid reader of newspaper and if possible start reading some popular magazine.
And about other subjects - u can select the optionals from list given by UPSC whichever u like.
Improve u essay writting skills.
There are some good coaching institutes like Khan academy, Rau IAS study circle ... but remember coaching is not necessary

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

hi,
I am also a computer Sc. graduate. I understand your situation very well. There is subject choice for computer science graduates. So you need to be very carefull in choosing optional subjects for prelims and for mains. Most of the CS students opt for mathematics, but i will suggest if you were good in history then go for it. It is quite interesting and will benefit you during the interviews.

Re: IAS after B.Tech in Computer Science?

I strongly think that u r confused about what to choose. So kick off these confusions as soon as possible. I think it would be better for u to join coaching. There u will be able to discuss ur problems. And last but not least study only those subjects which u can grasp.

1. should i quit my job for preparing IAS? i.e. i might be facing job crisis in future.
