here your question is totally concerned about my wish, but as a matter of fact you are the one who is going to appear for the IAS exams and not me so my suggestion for you may be or may not be as fruitful in terms of applying it in practice but you have to follow some simple steps without getting nervous. so i will suggest you in very simple way irrespective of whomsoever tells you whatever about the preparation just choose the subject as per the priority i.e
1. your intrest.
2. if you think you can handle the subject, then go for it.
3. if you like technical studies, then opt for it.
4. if you don't then go for some simple subjects like literture ones.
5. & if you are totally confused then best option is look for a good IAS coaching centre and ask them which subject they can teach and you can grasp..
that is the last way out for choosing a subject in a total mind black out situation.. ihope that will help you to some extent ,, bbye take care and good luck..

I think friend you must choose your subject as per your interest and knowledge .if there is no subject related to your computer science subject that you studied at present ...then you can go and choose on the basis of your past knowledge

What are the advantages of doing IAS over other higher studies...
How much of preparation is needed for this exam...
Being from Software Engg background, (presently studying Software engg),
will it be advisable to choose some subject like History for the IAS exam, which I lost touch with after 10th std...
How long should one study for such exams?
Do I hv to take yr off n study..or side by side prep is possible....while doing BE?

i want to suggest you not to confused about your subjects, you can take any paper as your main paper, but choose according to your choice.

Hi,
Diploma is not at all eligible to write IAS Examination. You need to be a graduate from a recognised University to appear for the IAS Examination,. If you hav any possibility of pursuing the graduate degree, It can be correspondance or From recognised Open University, doestnot matter. If so,Then do it to be Eligible for IAS.

Good Luck.

Hi,
You can take any subject or subjects, But should choose based on your interest. If you are with your interesting subject, Obviously it wont bore you and sure wont disturb your core subject. Sociology and physical adminstration are considered easy subjects. History and geography will be story'taining but lengthy. So its up to you to choose.

Good Luck.

Hi,
Obviously good. Appropriate time to start preparing for CAT would be 8 months before the CAT Exam. Do start a seperate thread to gain good Knowledge. You are into a wrong thread.

Good Luck.

Hi,
TO BECOME AN IAS OFFICER
On completing a graduation course (Graduation is must for CSE Examination), You need to apply for the UPSC CSE examination conducted in the month of May. The notifcation and details of application for this Examination will be given in the Employment news in the month of January. Do keep checking the Employment news for notification.
Can also find it in the UPSC website : http://www.upsc.gov.in/
The CSE Examination happens three phase, PRilims, Mains and Personality test.
On applying, You will appear for prilims inthe month of amy. On clearing the Exam, You will be contacted by UPSC for further proceedings.
You will be sent an application form by UPSC for MAin Examination.
Thus you will appear for the Main Examination.
On clearing the Main Examination, You will be called for personality Interview. On passing the personality test,
YOu will be given Rank list based on the performance in all the three Exams. Based on the rank, You will be granted your service, that you have opted.

Good Luck.

I strongly think that u r confused about what to choose. So kick off these confusions as soon as possible. I think it would be better for u to join coaching. There u will be able to discuss ur problems. And last but not least study only those subjects which u can grasp.

hi,
I am also a computer Sc. graduate. I understand your situation very well. There is subject choice for computer science graduates. So you need to be very carefull in choosing optional subjects for prelims and for mains. Most of the CS students opt for mathematics, but i will suggest if you were good in history then go for it. It is quite interesting and will benefit you during the interviews.

Hello friend,
The first important factor is ..the exam structure is going to be changed from this year. so first have a look at it. Other fact is that if u want to get through CSE , start focousing on general knowledge , become a avid reader of newspaper and if possible start reading some popular magazine.
And about other subjects - u can select the optionals from list given by UPSC whichever u like.
Improve u essay writting skills.
There are some good coaching institutes like Khan academy, Rau IAS study circle ... but remember coaching is not necessary

everyone is eligible for IAS exams and you are having computers in your graduations, but theres nothing to do with IAS exam

writing exam of IAS need little determination, hard work and..concentration

with these qualities and other references like
books, coaching class and helpers..you can have more knowledge towards cracking IAS

and best of luck for your future
