There is no specific exam as IPS examination.

IPS - INDIAN POLICE SERVICE, to become an IPS officer, one has to apply, appear and crack Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC once every year.

To be eligible for IPS Civil Service Exam, one must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate. The candidate should be Physical Fit.

There is certain prescribed Physical requirement for IPS aspirants:-

HEIGHT:-

-General Male-165cm, Female-150cm
-SC/ST male-160cm, Female-145cm

CHEST:-

-Male - 85cm, Female-79cm expendable to 5cm in both the cases.

The selection is through three phases:-

-CSAT - CIVIL SERVICE APTITUDE TEST -PRELIMINARY EXAM
-CIVIL SERVICE MAIN EXAM
-PERSONAL INTERVIEW

this exam is conducted by UPSC every years.for appear in this exam you must have to complete your graduation in any stream.
important dates--

UPSC IPS EXAM
Civil Services (Prel) Exam, 2011
Date of Notification: 19.02.2011

Date of Exam: 12.06.2011

the age limit exist for this exam 21-30 years.there are 5 & 3 years of relaxations are given to SC\ST & OBC candidates.

IPS = Indian Police Service

* Candidates should be the citizen of India
* Candidates should complete graduate from a recognized university
* Candidates should age limit within 21 to 30 years for general category
* Candidates should have age up to 35 years for SC/ST category
* Candidates should have age up to 33 years for OBC category

Attempts:
* For OBC category - 7 attempts
* For General category - 4 attempts
* For SC/ST category - No limit.

In order to appear for the IPS mains exam , you need to clear the CSAT i.e. civil services

aptitude test conducted by the UPSC.

Age limitation is between 21-30 years.

Relaxation Period:-

The selection procedure for IPS comprises of three stages for both boys and girls.
1. Preliminary exam- Civil Service Aptitude Test
2. Main Examination
3.Interview
Candidate have to qualify each stage to reach the next level.
The eligibility criteria for the exam are as follows
Candidate must be a graduate
Eligible age for the exam is between 21- 30 years (with relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and OBC's is 3 years)

You can become IPS officer through writing and clearing UPSC Civil Services Examination. UPSC CS Prelims Exam form will be available from 19-2-2011 to 21-3-2011 and the form is easily available at GPO's. The cost of application form is Rs 20 only. For details please visit www.upsc.gov.in

You read the advertisement whose published by UPSC. Fill the application form with Rs 70/- IPO. Read all syllabus preliminary and final examination get preparing. If succeed you will become an IPS officer.

You need to apply for civil services exam. Then you can Become IPS officer only. The details can be found on the link below:

you have to clear the Prelims and Mains also and you need to be graduate to be eligible for this.
