apply for university of north dakota..space program..its the best program in sync with universities with higher level space programs where OU student from hyderabad cannot be easily considered.many critics claimed that north dakota space program is much better compared to thousands of other universities..and u will have to work hard even if u want to qualify for north dakota ..for india try IIAP..and others..write JEST and IISC and IIT phd entrances

Apply for jest 2012 and pass the exam and u will do an ph.d in astronomy.

Syllabus for JEST [Joint Entrance Screening Test] is as follows:

Classical Mechanics:
Kinematics, Newton's laws, Work and Energy, Oscillatory and Rotational Motion, Dynamics of Systems of Particles, Central Forces and Celestial Mechanics, 3D particle dynamics, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalism, Non-inertial reference frames, Fluid Dynamics.

Electromagnetism:
Electrostatics, AC/DC currents and circuits, Magnetic Fields in free space and matter, Lorentz force, Induction, Maxwell's equations and their applications, Electromagnetic waves.

Optics and Wave Phenomena:
Wave properties, Superposition, Interference, Diffraction, Geometrical optics, Polarization, Doppler effect.

Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics:
Laws and Processes of thermodynamics, Equations of state, Ideal gases, Kinetic theory, Ensembles, Statistical Concepts, Calculation of thermodynamic quantities, thermal expansion and heat transfer.

Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics: Fundamental concepts, Solutions of the Schrodinger equation for square wells, harmonic oscillators, and hydrogenic atoms, spin and angular momentum, wave function symmetry, elementary perturbation theory.
