From the given pattern ,you can see that the entrance exam consists of questions from english,general knowledge and elementary mathematics.

So you will have to command over all these subjects according to the UPSC CDS exam syllabus.

For general knowledge try to read newspapers,watch standard news channels and read different types of monthly magazines.You can go for the books of arihant and Upkars publication for CDS exam.

Go through all previous year question papers of last ten year so that you can analyse that what type of questions are generally asked in examinations.

After clearing written test ,you will have to give Service selection board,for this I would suggest you to join some of the best coaching institutes for SSB like Minerva academy,Disha classes,Baalnoi academy,Cavalier India as these institutes are run by officers who has retired from defense and have idea about how to clear the different stages  of SSB.

Dear friend, Tips for preparation for CDS exam: Best Books you can refer: combined defense services exam by datason Rp Arihant CDS entrance examination by Brijesh Tripathi,Dr.Satyajeet rawat & Neetika goyal. Other books are also available like resasoning and verbal from arihant publication,Previous year examination paper of CDS examination etc. Prepare your timetable so that not a single second goes unutilising ,understand and response the importance of time you have. Understand pattern of CDS examination. Must beware of syllabus of examination. Must read English news paper ,magazines and books so as to improve their vocabulary. Must know what happening around you ,you must know whats going on about your state nation and about world in large. All the best.....................
