Re: What is the procedure to apply for IPS course? IPS is Indian Police Services and to become an IPS Officer one has to crack Civil Services Examination which is conducted by UPSC. So you have to apply for Civil Services Examination if you want to become an IPS Officer. First of all you must have a Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. You also must have the age if you want to apply for the IPS Officer exam. General Category -21 to 30 years OBC Category - 21 to 33 years SC/ST Category - 21 to 35 years For IPS Cadre you must have the physical fitness then only you will be eligible for it. The Examination will have following stages: -Preliminary Examination -Mains and Interview -Medical Examination Number of Attempts: General Category - 4 attempts OBC Category - 7 attempts SC/ST Category - No Limit So be ready with your preparation if you want to become a IPS officer. Dear Friend First of all ,I would like to tell you that IPS is neither a course nor a examination but stands for the Indian Police services and comes under the civil services of the Indian Government . In order to join this course ,first of all you need to apply for the entrance examination for this service called Civil services examinations conducted by the UPSC every year. Then you will have to crack the different stages of the examination which are : 1.Civil services aptitude test/preliminary exam 2.Main examination 3.Personal interview. You must ensure that you are eligible for the exam by fulfilling the eligibility criteria mentioned as below: 1.Graduation that is bachelor's degree in any discipline /stream from a recognized university is the minimum educational qualification required for it. 2.The age limit for the exam is 21-30 years .Upper age relaxed upto three years for obc and seven years for the sc/st . 3.You must be an Indian citizen. This year civil services examination is to be held on 26/05/2013 for which important dates are already over .SO you must wait for the next year .Notification will be released in the second month of year. It is under Civil Service Exam conducted once in a Year by UPSC.Minimum qualification required to appear for IPS exams is Graduation from a recognized university.No percentage is required for this required. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Educational Qualifications for IPS : Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Age limit: 21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs. Number of Attempts: Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt. The eligible candidate must be an Indian national having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness. The candidate should have minimum prescribed physical requirement regarding Height and Chest along with proportionate weight. The Civil Service Exam can be applied both through off line and on line mode. Through off line mode the application Form is obtained from General Post Offices.
