Educational qualification:

The candidate must be a degree holder of any discipline from a recognized university. The candidates who are in the final year of their degree course can also apply for the examination. Candidate who have completed their M.B.B.S., but not have completed the required internship during the time of submission of the application to the main examination will be provisionally admitted for the main examination.

Physical qualification for IPS:

Height: The male candidate should be 165cm and female candidate should be 150cm for general category candidates. In the case of candidates coming under SC/ST/OBC the height required is 160cm for male and 145cm for female.

Chest: Minimum requirement in the case of male candidates is 84cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm. In the case of female candidates the minimum requirement is 79cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.

Eye sight: 6/12 or 6/9 distant vision for worse eye and 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. Near vision for worse eye is J2 and for good eye is J1.

IPS stands for Indian Police Services.

Indian Police Service examination is a civil service examination. This examination is conducted by UPSC every year.

The qualifications required for this examination are prescribed as below:-

* Either graduate or a final year of graduation from any recognised board.

* Age limit- 21-30 for general, 21-33 for OBC, and 21-35 for SC/ST contendors.

* No of attempts- 4 for general, 7 for OBC and no attempts for SC/ST contendors.

Qualifications For IPS Exam


The recruitment for Indian Police Service shall be done through the Civil Service Exams which is conducted every year by the UPSC

A candidate will be eligible to appear for the Civil Service Exam only if :-

>> The candidate is either a final year graduation student or has graduated from a recognized college..

>> Candidate must be within the age limit of 21-30 years, 21-33 years for OBC and 21-35 years for SC/ST..

>> General candidates have a maximum of 4 attempts whereas OBC have 7 and there is no limit on attempts for SC/ST/PD..


You need to clear the following rounds for becoming an IPS Officer :-

>> PRelims or CSAT
>> Mains
>> Interview Round
>> Medical Examination Round


The Prelims shall consist of 2 objective papers based on Aptitude as well as General Awareness..

The Mains will test you on 9 subjective papers based on your graduation subjects as well as English and Essay Writing..

To become an IPS officer you have to crack Civil Services Examination which is conducted by UPSC every year.

One should be a Graduate in Any discipline to apply for Civil Services examination.

The age required is 21 to 30 years if you are General Category Candidate. There is age relaxation available for other categories based on the Government Rules and Regulations.

The number of attempts are limited for General and OBC category . For SC/ST number of attempts are unlimited.

IPS :-

This is a qualifying examination and only the candidates who all qualified can move to the next stage called the Main examination. The Main examination is a very intensive subjective type examination for which marks are awarded. Final year students are also applicable.

Age Limit:

Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science,
Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry
or in Engineering

IPS-INDIAN POLICE SERVICE, to become an IPS officer one has to appear and crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for Graduation Degree final exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years, is eligible to apply for Civil Service Exam. There is upper age relaxation up to 5 years for SC/ST candidate and up to 3 years for OBC candidate.

The selection is through three phases:-

If you are interested in IPS officer
Then you will have to fulfill these criteria

IPS CRITERIA :

1.Academic qualification :
You must be a graduate candidate.

2.Age criteria :
Your age must be within 21 to 30 years.[SC/ST will get 5 years age relaxation and OBC will get 3 year age relaxation]

3.Candidates who are in the final semester or have taken their final degree exam but are awaiting the results can also appear for the IPS examination.

4.Height criteria :
Minimum height of 165 cm for Men and 150 cm for Women.

5.Chest criteria :
84 cm for Men and 79 cm for Women

6.Presence of Squint is a disqualification

A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination.

4. Minimum Physical Standard

The physical standards are important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc. I shall give a detailed a/c of this sometime.
Services are divided into technical and non-technical. Technical services are IRTS, IPS, DANI PS, CISF, RPF & other Police organization. The Medical standards for Technical Services are stringent.

The minimum qualifications required for the IPS exam is as follows:-

-> The minimum educational qualification required is to be a graduate in any field from any recognized university.

-> You need to first clear the CSAT before appearing for the mains.

-> Age limitation is between 21-30 years for general , 21-35 for the SC/St , 21-33 years for the OBC.

-> General category get 4 , OBC get 7 while SC/ST get unlimited attempts to clear the exam.

The Union Public Service commission (UPSC) conducts the civil services examination every year. You can get all information about IPS exam
on the official website of UPSC.
Eligibility Criteria:

1) You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of filling the Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam form and not more than 30 years of age .

2) You must possess a graduate degree in any discipline .

3) Candidates who are in the final semester or have taken their final degree exam but are awaiting the results can also appear for IPS.

Relaxation in age:-

OBC--- 3 years.
