One needs to have minimum 50% marks to be eligible for the GATE exam. through the GATE score one can get admission in M.Tech courses throughout India. you can also go for a job in PSU through GATE score. some of the PSU's that recruit through the GATE score are- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.(BHEL) Bhartiya Sanchar Nigam Ltd(BSNL) National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd(NTPC Ltd.) GATE - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an entrance exam conducted by IIT and Indian Institute of Science for admission to M.Tech. courses in IITs, NITs and other reputed institutions. The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final B.Tech. Engineering Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University. There is no upper age limit for application to GATE. |

You can apply for GATE during 3rd year of B.Tech. or final year of B.Tech. or after completing B.Tech. There is no age limitation in the GATE examination. I am surprised to see a 1st year B.E. student rushing for GATE exam. First do your B.E. course well and when during 3rd year of B.E. if you think that your preparation is in good condition, apply for GATE in 3rd year of B.Tech. Without good knowledge of syllabus and practice for exam, it is useless to appear the exam |

Because For writing gate Exam candidate has to be Pre final year Or Final year ..of their Graduation. If you want to give gate. Then its of no use because if you clear it, That score will be valid for Two years. and you will be in 3rd year and your validity for your score card will get over. So, Its of no use thats why IIT's has designed the crieteria such that only pre final and final year only can give this Exam. Even if you see syllabus point of view, there are some subjects which you gonna face in your third and 2nd year of your Engineering. So, better you start preparing For Gate. You will Definitely Crack this because i am seeing such a passion to Write Gate in you... Go ahead.. |

You can even go to the Govt. sector. => Some govt. companies ask whether you are qualified or not, if you are qualified it helps you. => Nowdays getting a govt. job is not an easy thing.. => The most important thing is that you dont have age limits in attending GATE exam. |

M.Sc students can apply. 3. 3rd year or final year students of B.tech or BE can also apply. So that means you have to wait till 3rd year to apply for GATE. Thank you |

To appear in GATE exams, You have a 4 year bachelor degree OR Master degree from a recognised colleges. OR You are in the Final or Pre-final Year of Your Bachelor Or Master Degree Courses. Its a little bit early for you to sit for the GATE exam now itself,instead you start preparing from now and you can write at the pre or final year of your graduation. The GATE syllabus covers all the topics in all the four years of your graduation course. Refer the following books: G.K. publishers R.K. Sinodia's Publications. Hello...since you are a B.E student you can appear for GATE exam but only when you reach 3rd year or final year...You can only appear that time not now when you are in 1st year.As you are interested in sitting for GATE exam you can start preparation from now onwards and try to be attentive in the class also because the syllabus will be similar to your B.E syllabus...Its will be easy for you to write the exam and also you can prepare for some aptitude questions also for the exam...You can refer to books like G.K. Publication as it is having lots of solved question and also books like R.S.Agrawal and J.S.Sinha... |

Hi,its a common question that most of the students do have in their mind whose are GATE ASPIRANTS.Well sorry to inform you that there is no provision to appear for the GATE exam in the first year itself.But you can appear for it from 3rd year onwards.But you can start your preparations from now on by starting to collect the syllabus first and then the materials. Do refer gateforum.com for getting syllabus corresponding to your branch and then start preparing for the GATE.By the end of 2nd year,start collecting previous year question papers and try to solve it.So by doing these things i hope you could easily get through the exam.........Wishing you all the best |

Since you are a B.E.student for the earliest you can appear for GATE will be in your 3rd year as The minimum eligibility requirement for GATE is:: students in pre-final year of their graduation Degree.(BE/BTech) You must understand that GATE includes papers from your engineering degree as well. You will have to answer papers for the stream you choose to apply through. so how can a first year student who is just into his course can answer those questions since in first year you study general subjects like physics chemistry maths, english etc. I suggest you to concentrate on your engineering degree and then if you want you can give GATE later in 3rd year or later as there is no age limit in GATE so no need to rush. You will be eligible either when you are in your pre-final year, final year or after completing your Engineering degree. So,do not be in such a haste its only your first year now,its the beginning.Try to get the basics right,if you are thorough from now onwards then it will help you a lot when you appear for the GATE exam.Because the questions in GATE examination are such that you need to be clear in the concepts of your subjects. Look only those candidates are eligible to appear in the GATE exam who are either studying in the final or the pre final years or have completed their engineering. At the present moment, you are only in the first year, hence you are not eligible now. The reason to allow candidates to appear once they are in the pre final year is that, during the first three of engineering, a lot of course for GATE is covered in your curriculum, hence you will not have a lot of pressure to study separately for GATE apart from your regular academic curriculum. Also, in first year, a student is too young to face tough competitions from senior candidates. So relax and enjoy the first two years of your engineering life. Later on you as it is have to enter the rat race to survive Good Luck!

Re: Can I sit for GATE in B.E 1st year itself? hi.. you can not sit for the exam when you are in the third year, you should be either in final,pre-final or passed out of college to sit in the gate exam, the reason being that most of the questions in the exam comes from the third year and final year and being in the first year you will not be in an position to answer that questions and hence there is no point in writing the gate exam for you, keep preparing from now only and make your basics strong so that when you come to third year you will be ready for the exam |

Re: Can I sit for GATE in B.E 1st year itself? You can give GATE in 1st year itself but it is of no use. Score of GATE is valid for 2 years. So generally people give it in 3rd or 4th year. If you are thinking of giving GATE for the sake of experience, then refrain from it and give it in the 3rd year because at this time, your knowledge base is not so good and ultimately it might end up in lowering your confidence rather than boosting it.
