Re: What are the minimum educational requirement for becoming a college Professor? NET(National Eligibility Test) is conducted by CBSE(Central Board of Secondary Education) on behalf of UGC(University Grants Commission) for recruitment of Assistant Professor or Lecturer in Indian universities and colleges. Eligibility to appear in NET is to possess a postgraduate degree in any stream from any recognised university with more than 50% marks without rounding off. Also, students are adviced to appear in subject of their post-graduation only. NET is conducted twice in a year. |

This article explains the additional education requirements that may be needed for College Professor. Age limit:- There is no age bar for becoming a College Professor. |

The minimum percentage of marks required in master's degree is 55% marks. You are eligible to apply for UGC NET exam after post graduation in History with 58% marks. |

The eligibility to appear in examination is that candidate must have passed aster degree with minimum 55%. So, you can appear in examination and after qualifying in examination will become eligible for final selection. There is no age limit to appear in examination. |

Eligibility criteria: Master's degree from UGC recognized university. The percentage required to apply for NET exam in master's degree is 55%. Since you have 58% marks in master's degree in history, you can apply for UGC NET examination. There is no upper age limit for lecturer post. |

The minimum eligible to become professor in government college is that candidate must have passed master degree and have appeared and qualified in NET examination. The minimum educational qualification required to become a lecturer in college relevant your field is that the candidate must have completed Master's degree from a recognised University. The candidate has to qualify the National Eligibility Test in order to apply for the post of lecturer. |

To become a professor in any recognized college, you are required to qualify NET/SET/SLET examinations and for appearing in these examinations the minimum education required is a master's degree in any discipline with 55% marks ( or 50% marks in case of SC/ST or PH category candidates ) from a recognized university. So,having completed your PG ( Post Graduation ) in History with 58% marks, you are certainly eligible for appearing in NET ( National Eligibility Test ) with History as your paper. Most Institutions of Higher Education required professors have a minimum of Doctoral degree in an academic field of study and a doctoral degree required 3 years of study or more beyond the Master's degree level. Community colleges and career training centres may hire a professor with a Master's Degree. Some universities require professors to have completed education course work. Moreover the candidate has to qualify the National Eligibility Test. |

NET examination is conducted by CBSE under the guidelines of UGC. The eligibility to appear in examination is that candidate must have passed master degree from a recognised university with minimum 55%. There is no age limit to appear in examination. Having completed your Post graduation degree in History with 58% marks you are certainly eligible for UGC NET ( National Eligibility Test ) held by CBSE as for appearing in the same examination for becoming an assistant professor, all that is required is a master's degree in the concerned subject with 55% marks from a recognized university.
