To join flying branch in IAF through AFCAT, One must have passed (10+2) with at least 50% marks in each physics and mathematics and passed B.E/B.Tech with at least 60% marks from a recognized institute. So, If you have more than 50% in physics and mathematics each and have more than 60% in your engineering degree, then you can apply for IAF flying branch through AFCAT.

AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test.

Through AFCAT, you can join any of the following three branches:
  • Flying Branch
  • Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branch
  • Ground Duty (Technical) branch

If you are planning to join Flying Branch, then you must have secured at least 50% marks in Physics and Mathematics each in 10+2 standard. Along with this, you should have secured at least 60% marks in B.E./B.Tech.

Similarly, for Technical Branch, you should have secured at least 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level.

However, for joining Non-Technical branch, there is no such percentage requirement of 10+2 standard.

The full form of IAF is Indian Air Force.

The selection of candidates into IAF at senior secondary level is given through National Defence Academy.

Bachelor of Engineering candidate can apply for Air Force Common Admission Test for different branches. If you have minimum of 60% marks you can can apply for AFCAT exam.

Mathematics and Physics is necessary for AFCAT exam at 12th level.

Yes, it is mandatory to have minimum 60 marks in each of the physics and mathematics paper in std 12th to become eligible to appear for the AFCAT after bachelor degree with minimum 60% aggregate.

So, if you have scored less in the intermediate than you are not eligible to appear in the examination.

What should be the minimum score in Maths and Physics to be eligible to join IAF?

When I checked it's necessary to have 60% or above 60% marks in plus two to join Indian Air Force. I have 65% above marks in my BE degree. Is it necessary to have 60% or above 60% marks in Physics and Maths in plus two to appear in AFCAT exam and join Air Force?
