Re: Government Jobs for Mechanical Engineering graduates with 58% marks in BE Your marks in Mechanical Engineering are less for jobs in government sector jobs as well the private sector jobs. Most main companies do not hire candidate with less than 60 percent marks in graduation. This rule is followed by private companies as well Public Sector Undertakings. PSU are the companies controlled by the government. You will find that Public Sector Undertakings also keep the percentage criteria at 60%. However it does not mean that you are not eligible for government jobs at all. You should be able to apply for the Indian Engineering Service. It is the most preferred entrance exams by the Engineering graduates. Indian Engineering Service is conducted by Union Public Service Commission for government deparments that are related to defence, infrastructure like roads, railways, bridges and telecommunications. The Indian Engineering Service is conducted for 4 branches of Engineering. Civil Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering Electrical Engineering Since you have completed Mechanical Engineering, it makes you eligible for the Indian Engineering Service entrance exam. You will be able to apply for job in the following departments if cleared the Indian Engineering Service. Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers Indian Railway Stores Service Central Water Engineering Central Power Engineering Service (Central Electricity Authority) Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) Indian Naval Armament Service Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) Indian Navy Central Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Service (Central Public Works Department) Border Roads Engineering Service Indian Supply Service (Directorate General of Supply and Disposals) Indian Defence Service of Engineers Central Engineering Service (Roads) IES Eligibility 1. Should be Indian citizen to apply for it. 2. Engineering degree from a AICTE recognized college. 3. Passing marks would be sufficient enough to apply. 4. There is age limit of 21 to 30 years. 5. Relaxation of 3 years is given to OBC. 6. 5 years relaxation for SC/ST. 7. 10 years relaxation for Person with Disability 8. Even final year students of B.Tech can also apply. |

Some PSU like EIL keep 70% Since your marks are less then required marks, you can,t apply. If you are from reserved category, then you may apply as cut off for them is 50 or 55%. These days PSU is recruiting based on your GATE score and not your b.tech score. Try to get very good marks in GATE. However, if you can answer why so low marks in graduation in interview and able to justify, then you may get the job all the best |

Generally in all government sector job it hardly matters what you have scored in 10 and 12. What matter is your engineering. So don't worry you can apply below mention jobs like... BHEL HPCL ISRO NTPC Indian railway Defence services(Indian Air force, Army, Navy) Civil services(IES,IAS etc...) etc... All the Best... |
