A student has secured more than 40 percent in class eleven in English and other three subjects and in agreegate of final exam ,but failed to secure that in half yearly exam.He study in ISC board. Can he be promoted to class twelve?

Passing criteria in 11th ISC is 33% in overall subjects. So if you fail in any one subject either you have to appear for compartmental exam or based on your practical marks your school can promote you to 12th without any compartmental exam.

Promotion criteria in class eleven of ISC board?

According to the policy, students' grades in the mid-term test (term-1), yearly exam (term-2) and internal evaluation, project, practical, or all put together will be used to determine their promotion or upgradation to the next higher class.

For each of five main subjects, the passing score will be 33% i.e. a candidate with 33 marks and above out of 100 marks will pass.

The promotion criteria for class 12 is that you just have to pass your class 11th, percentage doesn't matters.

Definitely you will be promote to class 12th as you have passed your class 11 with 40% marks.

If you fail one of the subjects, the other will not count against your grade. However, if you fail two subjects, your school may promote you to the next grade level without a compartmental test if your practical grades are good enough. So, it totally depends upon school.

Class 11 is not that important that people say. It is just the starting part what you will be going to study in class 12. The passing criteria is same as English +any three subjects. But some people failing in three subjects or have passed only in English and any one or two subject, that person also got passed. It is totally depending upon the school that you study.

If you fail in a single subject, your grade will not be affected by the failure of the other subjects. If your practical grade point average is high enough and you fail two subjects, your school might promote you to the next grade level without a compartmental test. Thus, it all relies on the school.
