Minimum eligibility to become Assistant Professor in government colleges in India :

Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks.

Candidate should have completed master's degree in the relevant discipline from a reputed university with at least 55% marks.

Candidate must have declared qualified in NET - National Eligibility Test or SET/SLET entrance test conducted by local state government.

If you have above mentioned eligibility then you can apply for the post of Assistant Professor in government colleges.

If you have not qualified NET entrance test recently or any other lecturer test last year then you will be required to have PhD in the concerned discipline/subject from a recognized university.

So you have passed SET exam in 2005 which is not enough because scores of such entrance tests are expires in one year so that you are still not eligible but if you apply for NET test and qualify with good marks then you will be eligible to apply for Assistant Professor job so think about it and apply for June NET test 2015.
