The University was established in 1975 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh in India. It offers various professional, technical and vocational study programmes in fields of science, Engineering, hotel management, biomedical science, IT, Law, journalism etc.

The university aims at providing quality education to its students through basic and applied research and also to improve the quality of the life of its students, irrespective of their gender, caste, nationality or religion, so that they flourish in every dimension of their personality. The university has 77 affiliated colleges.

The university has faculties of agriculture, arts, commerce, education, engineering and technology, law, science, medicine etc. In which it provides undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and various other courses. For admission, a candidate must purchase or download (from the official website of the university) the prospectus of the university in order to get the information regarding the qualification criteria for any particular course.

The university maintains central library and departmental libraries with a huge and rich collection of books, manuscripts, journals, magazines, reports, literature providing wider access to the students and acting as educational and informational food for them. The computer centre of the university aims at imparting knowledge to the students about the computers and its applications. The indoor stadium of the university is meant to help students carve-out their careers in the field of sports. Also it helps them to be physically and mentally fit and sound so that they can have an overall development. Separate girls and boys hostels have been provided with facilities like food, telephone, power supply, cold and hot water supply, security, furnishing, recreation and T.V. room etc. Auditoriums are meant to hold the creative cultural events. The two conference halls of the university holds conferences, seminars etc.

The dispensary with added services of a dentist, an ophthalmologist, a pathologist and an internist are accessible for the students and teachers for their regular checkups and emergencies. There are two shopping complexes in the premises providing facilities for photo copying, STD booths, bookshop, snack bar, internet cafe etc. Cafeteria on the campus is highly hygienic and serves as recreational centre for the students. Within the campus is present a branch of State Bank of India.

In order to promote co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the students, university has initiated National Cadet Corps and national Service Scheme.
