Durgapur College of Commerce & Science began its educational journey in the year 2003 and the college is affiliated to the University of Burdwan to offer teaching in some non-conventional job-oriented research-based subjects like environmental science, microbiology, biotechnology and biochemistry. Initially, the college was offering only UG courses in these subjects, however, in the year 2006, it got approval from the affiliating university to introduce PG course in biochemistry as well.

Durgapur College of Commerce & Science offers the following courses:

• Bachelor of Science (honors) in

o Environmental science

o Microbiology

o Biochemistry

o Biotechnology

• Master of Science in Biochemistry

Eligibility requirements:

For UG courses offered by the Durgapur College of Commerce & Science, students who have passed their higher secondary/ISC or CBSE or its equivalent examination with not less than 45% of marks. However, the subject combination at the higher secondary level for each of the branches of science subjects differs from one subject to another. For biotechnology and biochemistry courses, candidates must have studied physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics subjects at the higher secondary level, while for environmental science and microbiology courses, they must have studied chemistry and biology subjects. For Master of Science in Biotechnology course, candidates must have completed their B. Sc (hons.) in chemistry or biochemistry or honors in chemistry, microbiology, physiology, zoology and botany with chemistry as one of the subsidiary subject.

Intake capacity of the institution:

For B. Sc courses, the intake capacity of Durgapur College of Commerce & Science is 33 students per year, while for environmental science alone; the intake capacity is 25 students per year. For M. Sc course, the intake capacity is 25 students per year.

How to apply:

For B. Sc courses admission of students is done on direct admission basis and for M. Sc course, candidates can get the application form from the office of the University of Burdwan and from the campus of the college. Application can be downloaded from www.buruniv.ac.in and in case of downloading the application, the required application fee should be paid in the form of DD drawn in favor of Durgapur College of Commerce & Science payable at Durgapur and it should be attached with the filled application form to the office of the college.

Placement Assistance:

With a view to meet the challenges of the present century, a career-counseling cell is functioning in the college. It has an attached placement cell for the placement purpose of the pass-outs of the college. The cell ensures that the students are engaged in reputed organizations after completion of their course with the college.  The cell offers appropriate counseling to the students for their bright future.
