SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES Special instructions to Candidates for Conventional type of papers Articles permitted inside Examination Hall Battery-operated pocket calculators of “non-programmable” type only, mathematical/engineering/drawing instruments, including a flat rule divided on the edges into inches and tens of an inch and into centimeters and millimeters, a slide rule, set squares, a protractor and a pair of compasses, pencils, coloured pencils, mapping pens, eraser, T-square and drawing board for use wherever necessary. Candidates are not allowed to bring with them any “Tables or Charts” for use in the Examination Hall. Mobile phones, pagers or any other communication devices are not allowed inside the premises where the examination is being conducted. Any infringement of these instructions shall entail disciplinary action including ban from future examinations. Candidates are advised in their own interest not to bring any of the banned item including mobile phones/pagers to the venue of the examination, as arrangement for safekeeping can not be assured. Tables to be supplied by UPSC If it is considered necessary for answering the questions set in any paper, the Commission may supply any of the following for reference purpose only:- (i) Mathematical/Physical, Chemical and Engineering Tables (including Logarithmic Tables); (ii) Steam Table (including Mollier Diagrams for Temperature up to 800 C and Pressure up to 500 Kgf/Cm); (iii) National Building Code of India 1970 or 1983 Group 2 Part VI; (iv) Any other special articles as may be necessary for the candidates to answer the questions set in the question paper. After conclusion of the examination, return the above items to the Invigilator. Answers to be written in own hand Write the answers in your own hand in ink. Pencil may be used for maps, mathematical drawings or rough work. Check Answer Book The candidate must write his roll number (and not his name) only in the space provided for the purpose on every answer book used by him. Before writing in the answer book, please see that it is complete. In case there are any missing pages, it should be got replaced. Do not tear out any pages from the Answer Book. If you use more than one Answer Book, indicate on the cover of first Answer Book the total number of Answer Books used. Do not leave any blank, unused spaces between answers. If such spaces are left, score them out. Answers in excess of prescribed number will be ignored The candidate must attempt questions strictly in accordance with the directions given on each question paper. If questions are attempted in excess of the prescribed number shall be valued and the remaining answers will be ignored. Questions relating to graph/ récis should be attempted only on graph/ récis sheets to be supplied on demand by the Invigilators. All loose sheets such as récis sheet, drawing papers, graph sheets etc. whether used or not, should be placed inside the answer books and fastened along with the additional answer book(s), if any. Candidates who fail to observe this instruction will be penalized. Do not write your roll number on these sheets. Unfair means strictly prohibited Do not copy from the papers of any other candidate nor allow your papers to be copied nor give nor attempt to give nor obtain nor attempt to obtain irregular assistance of any description. It will be responsibility to every candidate to ensure that his answers are not copied by another candidate. Failure to do so will invite penalty, as may be awarded by the Commission for adoption of unfair means. Conduct in Examination Hall Do not misbehave in any manner or create disorderly scene in the examination hall or harass or bodily harm the staff deployed for the conduct of examination. your age must be between 21 and 30.. for SC/ST candidate relaxation in upper age of 5 years.. and for OBC candidates relaxation in upper age is 3 years.. You can give IAS with your graduation degree only.
Because to become an IAS you should have completed your graduation first in any stream from any recognized university....that is the only educational criteria....then take a look at the following things. 1. Your age should be between 21 years and 30 years. [33 years for Sc/ST] 2. You should have good knowledge in current affairs and social issues. IAS exam is going to be conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission).
The selection pattern will be by -CSAT (Civil Services Main Examination). -Civil Services Main examination -Interview. The eligibility criteria will be as follows Academic qualification : -One should have completed graduation with any of the discipline from a recognized university. Age criteria : -One should be in the age group of 21-30 years -Relaxation is there in upper age limit for the candidates of OBC and ST/Sc. |

In order to give the IAS exam , you need to clear the CSAT exam conducted by the UPSC. The minimum educational qualification required is to be a graduate. Age limitation is between 21-30 years. Relaxation for SC/ST candidates is for 5 years and for OBC it is 3 years. General categories get 4 attempts while reserved categories get 7 attempts. General awareness is very important in the preparation of the IAS exam . Reading newspapers will help you a lot. Thanks. |

i come under OBC category,but have appeared in all exams till now as general student.now, while preaparing for IAS i am thinking to use this benefit in UPSC examination.Can i give my future exam now onwards as OBC (though my documents like 12th marksheet, graduation certificate depict me as general).i have asked to issue OBC certificate to local government in my town and is under process. THANKYOU.

my date of birth is 01.03.1979. i want to be an ias officer. i belong to obc caste. but the main question is that am i eligible for this exam as my age is around 32 years and 4 months. but there are seven attempts. on the basis of these seven attempts am i eligible. thankyou. |

For appearing in IAS prelims conducted by UPSC, you should hold a graduation degree in any discipline. The age limit is as follows- For General candidates- 21 to 30 years For SC/ST candidates- 21 to 35 years For OBC candidates- 21 to 33 years The fees for ragistration is 100 Rs. for General and OBC category. ( No fees for SC/ST category) |

To become IAS, you will have to apply for Civil Service exam, conducted by UPSC.
In this exam around 900 people are selected among 4L, so you can imagine the level of competition ..!! Top 120 are given IAS cadre. Eligibility for Civil service exam: Graduation from any field from a recognized university. Age limit 21-30 yrs (3 yr relaxation for OBC & 5 yr for SC/ST) This exam has three stages: Priliminary exam Mains Interview It is a year long procedure. Applications forms are available in February. Forms can be obtained from any Post office. Exam is held in May, after you clear priliminary exam, then only you can sit for Mains. |

Academic IAS exam Eligibility
A degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educatsional institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be a Deemed University under the UGC Act, 1956, or an equivalent qualification. The UPSC may in exceptional cases treat a candidate without the foregoing requisite qualification as an eligible candidate as per following conditions Age limit for IAS A candidate must have attained 21 years and not be over 30 years on August 1 of the year of examination. The upper age limit is relaxed in specific cases as mentioned below: upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate belongs to SC/ST. upto a maximum of 3 years if the candidate belongs to Other Backward Classes. upto a maximum of 5 years if the candidate had been domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir during the period between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989. upto a maximum of 3 years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled during hostilities with foreign countries or in a disturbed area and consequently released. |

For IAS, you will need to write civil service exam conducted by UPSC. The minimum academic qualification required to write the exam is a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. You should have attained the age of 21 years and should not be over 30 years. (relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC) The application form is available in the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices after the notification by UPSC. The advertisement for the same will be published in all leading newspapers including Employment News. The filled application form should be submitted to Secretary, Union Public Service Commission Dholpur House Shahjahan Road New Delhi - 110069 The selection process includes 3 stages 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview But according to sources, the preliminary exam will be replaced by civil service aptitude test from next year and the pattern of main exam is supposed to remain the same. After successful completion of the civil service aptitude test, you will be eligible to write the main examination which will be followed by interview. graduated student from any recognized indian university having the age between the 21 to 30 years can attempt the upsc exams of the different services.
there is the relaxation in the age limit for the sc/st category student of the 3 years more than that of general and obc category student. general category student can apply this exam for 4 times while obc category student can attempt it for 7 times. sc/st category student can attempt for the unlimited times. to know more about the ias exam kindly visit the website www.upsc.gov.in thanks |
