Re: What is Gazetted officer signature?
Gazetted Officer means, those officers names that are published in the Government Gazette. Government of India and State Governments publish Gazettes, where the Government Orders are published. If any thing is published in the Gazette, then it is authentic. Similarly, when an Officer is appointed, his appointment is published in the Gazette. Not all the appointments are published in the Gazette. Only those with a particular Grade Pay are given Gazette Notification. There are two types of Gazetted Officers, Group A or Group B Gazetted Officers. Section Officer level Gazetted Officers are termed as Group B Gazetted Officers.
Earlier, when Photocopy machines were not there, one could not show his original document every where, in such cases, the true copy was attested by the Gazetted Officer. He will physically verify the Document, and then certify. Once it is certified, then the document is at par with Original. (In case the document is wrong, strict action is taken against the attesting officer). To prove the sign is genuine, the Official Seal is also stamped on the document. The official seal will contain the Name of the Officer, Designation, Department, Ministry and the Government. Certain Document shall require to be signed by Group A Gazetted Officer (normally for Photo Identification and Character Certification). It is mandatory to maintain a register to record the attestation. |
