Re: What is Gazetted officer signature?
Gazetted officer means 1st class officer.Gazetted officer must be a government official.
BDO,PRINCIPAL,DOCTOR, Police officers,Executive Engineers , Readers ,Magistrate...etc Now a days for every document that are submitted for jobs, for admission etc there is a condition implies that these documents must be signed by a gazetted officer. It is because of the to avoid the forgery regarding the documents submitted by the candidate.Though Gazetted Officer is a person of higher dignitary so HE values a lot & if HE disagrees to sign any document then that document is not to be considered by any institute. |

Re: What is Gazetted officer signature?
In West Bengal
The Govt. of West Bengal abolished the system of classification of employees into Gazetted, Non-Gazetted and Fourth Grade Services vide GO No. 10606-F dated 25.09.1978 and grouping of services introduced. At present as per West Bengal Services Revision of Pay & Allowances, 2009, Government employees are classified as Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D in the following manner:%u2013 Group A %u2013 Government employees holding all posts in the pay band Nos. 4 and 5 with grade pay ranging from Rs. 4,400 to Rs. 10,000. Group B %u2013 Government employees holding all posts in the pay band No. 3 with grade pay ranging from Rs. 3,200 to Rs. 4,100. Group C %u2013 Government employees holding all posts in the pay band No. 2 with grade pay ranging from Rs. 1,900 to Rs. 2,900. Group D %u2013 Government employees holding all posts in the pay band No. 1 with grade pay ranging from Rs. 1,700 to Rs. 1,800. Group A Officer can attest documents as authorized Gazetted Officer. He put his signature, mention his designation and write %u2018Group %u2013A%u2019 below the designation. Group A Officers of the State Govt. is authorized and competent to grant certificates which are required to be granted by the Gazetted Officer or to attest papers done by erstwhile Gazetted Officer as per GO No. 4890-F dated 16.05.1979. If a Group B employee on the ground of Career Advancement Scheme or any other non-functional elevation is allowed the scale of Group A Officer, he will not get the status of Group A Officer as per GO No. 5326-F dated 15.06.1999. Hence he will not get the power of attestation or power to grant certificates. Re: What is Gazetted officer signature?
Nobody has clear conception about Gazetted officer. Those class one officers who are appointed by President of India or Governor of States, and their appointmental record comes in Gazette of India. Power of attestation is not at all the criteria of categorization.
In a Block, following officers are Gazetted - 1. BDO, 2. MEDICAL OFFICER, 3. VETERINARY OFFICER, 4. ALL WBCS EXECUTIVES LIKE CTO, ADSR, FOOD INSPECTOR, ETC. 5. AGRICULTURE OFFICER. |

Re: What is Gazetted officer signature?
A Gazetted Officer means a Government Servant, whose appointment was published in the official gazette of the Government of India. All Class I (Now, Group A) officers are gazetted. Normally, the Gazette publication starts with words like "The President is pleased to appoint . . . ".
While he receives some privileges in his parent office by virtue of his gazetted status, a lot is expected from him. First, the poor GO is expected to be on duty for 24 hours in the sense that if called for duty at any time, he should turn up without any excuse. Higher responsibilities, not directly in line of his regular job like conducting some enquiries, etc. are assigned to him without any additional remuneration. In the public domain, attestation is an important responsibility upon him. He is expected to serve the public by attesting the copies after verifying them with the original. Thus, his attestation (of affixing his signature on the copy) virtually means that he has compared the document with the original and he is satisfied that it is 100% true. Further, he can issue conduct certificate to people known to him. For all these responsibilities, he is not expected to charge any payment from the public. Signing in green ink is not mandatory, though by convention many GOs sue green ink. However, his rubber stamp below his signature is very very essential. There is no harm in his attesting documents of his relations. A retired GO cannot attest any document. By the above logic, an MLA or a headmaster or a doctor do not fall in the category of a Gazetted Officer. Sometimes, the people accepting the applications prescribe "certificates to be attested by GOs, Doctors, MLAs, MPs, etc". In such cases, it is OK, else there is every danger of rejection of your application. You will find GOs in Collectorates, District Police Head quarters, PWD offices, Income Tax/Custom Offices, Railway headquarters, All India Radio/Doordarshan Offices, Meterological depts, etc. Junior Engineers are not gazetted. |

under the seal of the Governor of the concerned state or by the President of India at national level, requires being notified/listed in the Indian Gazette or State Government Gazette is considered as a Gazetted Officer. If a person's name is published in the Gazette, he/she is called Gazetted, in most cases they are honorary Justice of peace and have same standing as some of the Magistrates. This is the reason why the signature of such public servant is recognised on certain documents. |

I believe at one time both were published in the Gazette. Senior commissioned officers have/had same standing as civilian gazetted officers. They are in the Gazette also. Only Government officials are in the Gazette. Principals are not in the Gazette in most part. Exception are the school or colleges run by the Government of India. I do not know of any at this time. Principals are included by admitting colleges, to ease the burden of proof, to the students. |
