Which all courses are available to study LAW?


Hi, apart from LLB are there any other courses in Law? From where can I do Law courses in Calcutta? Which private or government institutes are offering Law courses in Calcutta?

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) – 3 years
Integrated undergraduate degrees – B.A. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., BBA LLB, B.Com LL.B – 5 years
Master of Laws (LL.M.) – one/two years
Master of Business Law
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Integrated MBL-LLM/ MBA-LLM – 3years

In India, there are two models for legal studies:
  • Bachelor of Law degree - 3 years
  • Integrated Law degree - 5 years
  • Bachelor of Law degree that is LLB is a traditional model of legal education which provide expetise in legal areas only. The career scope for this course are Academics, Litigation, Judiciary, Civil Services etc.
  • Five year integrated law degree is a combination of two streams. One is Law and other stream may be Arts/Commerce/Science/Management such as BBA+LLB, BA+LLB, B.Sc.+LLB, MBA+LLB etc.This course make you expert in both streams and provides broad range of career scope such as Ligitation, Academics, Civil Services, Legal Clerk/Assistant, Law firms, Taxation firms, Companies, Regulatory bodies etc. National Law Universities offer BA. LL.B integrated degree.

Other law degrees except the above two, are
  • LLM - 1/2 years
  • MBL(Mater of Business Law - 1/2 years
  • PhD

Admission Test for legal studies
  • AIBE(All India Bar Examination) - mandatory to qualify in order to practice in the profession of law and to receive certificate which is provided by BCI after completing LLB.
  • CLATCommon Law Admission Test) - for Integrated LLB+LLM to get admission in National Law Universities and many other institues.
  • LSAT(Law School Admission Test) - to get admission in foreign universities/institutes conducted by the Law School Admission Council, USA.
