i m a student of b.tech (CIVIL ENGG.).

I m in 7th sem..i have 2 backlogs..having 55% marks in XII and 74 % in XI..i will be 23 years old on 11 april ..

i am eager to join Indian army either permanent or short service commission..

can anyone please guide me the options available for me to get into it.....thanks

Yes you can get into army.

For short service commission in army

1.Through Officers Training academy

exam- Combined Defense Service Examination

age limit- 19-25years

needed a degree of recognized university.

2.Technical graduates

For the post of engineers

age limit 20-27years

needed a degree in civil,electrical or mechanical engineering.

there are 60 vacancies for civil engg graduate in indian army but the eligibilty criteria strictly demands no backlogs and 60% aggregate in graduation and
medical fitness-
Height : The Minimum height of the person should be 157.5 cm.
Eye Sight : The better eye 6/6 and worst eye 6/18

there is a psychological aptitude test and selected candidates move further for next stage examination.

well luckily you can have a chance of joining indian army by UES(pre final yr)

You are eligible for army as a comissioned officer after completing your degree.You can join army through CDS,IMA,SSC/TGC entries into army .

you can join the army by C.D.S but the age limit for that is not more than 23 years

so,i think you will not be eligible as you will cross the age limit.

however army also organize exams for engineer post separately
therefore,you can join the army through that.

A Engineering graduates can join indian army

• join in the 3rd year or that final year through the UES(University Entry Scheme)
  
• or after completion of graduation through Technical Graduate Scheme, by appearing before the Service Selection Board.

In both the cases you can be posted as a captain.

and also you can apply for Combined Defence Services examination as a regular/short service commissioned officer..

• For regular service training will be Indian Military Academy , Dehradun..
  
• For short service Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai...

Short service is for 5 years and after completion of 5 years either you can resign or opt for an extension for five years or a permanent commission.
