Hello Janardhan,
AS you have mentioned that you are pursuing masters degree program, you are definitely eligible for civil service exam as per you educational qualification because the minimum educational qualification required for it is a bachelors degree in any stream.
Now, in the first stage of the civil service exam, you will have to write two compulsory papers and there won't be any provision for optional papers.
Paper I will be based on general studies and Paper II will be based on aptitude test.
You will have to qualify this stage to move on to the next one which is known as the Main exam. In the main exam, apart from compulsory papers, you will have to write two optional papers.
Since you are pursing Mechatronics now and must have studied science in the bachelors degree program, the best combination of optional subjects for you would be Mathematics along with mechanical engineering.

However, you may select any other combination of subjects as per your interest from the following list:
Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology, Electrical Engineering, Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian,History, Zoology,Law.

Dear Friend

As you are an M.Tech. student so you must have done graduation (B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc.)
already which is the minimum and sufficient qualification required for Civil Services
examination.

One can choose Mechanical Engineering as one optional subject for Civil Services Main
examination. There is no option of any particular paper of Mechanical Engineering domain
so you will have to opt for Mechanical engineering only if you wish to opt some course
according to your profile.

You wil have to choose one moer subject for main examination.
As you are interested to choose Mechanical Engineering as one subject so you
should choose some arts subject e.g., History, Geography, Sociology,
Public Administration etc.
Choose that subject only in which you have some interest and you can do deep
study in that area.
