Graduation done from correspondence or regular from a recognized University is sufficient for appearing in IAS examination.

In the IAS notification released by UPSC there is nowhere written that you should be a regular mode Graduate. Hence it is absolutely clear that any Graduate can apply for the exam.

Delhi University is a recognized University, so there shouldn't be any problem for you.

Also check that you fulfill other criteria before applying for IAS exam.

Age Limit :

General Category : 21 to 30 years

OBC Category : 21 to 33 years

SC/ST Category : 21 to 35 years

Selection Procedure:

Selection is on merit and you have to get top marks in the exam conducted by UPSC. The exam has 3 stages that you have to appear.

-Preliminary Exam

-Mains Exam

-Personality Test

Those who pass prelims are only eligible to appear for the mains exam. So be prepared for the prelims because it is the first stage of the exam.

Number of attempts are also different for different category candidates.

For General there are only 4 attempts and for OBC 7 attempts.

If you are SC/ST category candidate then you don't worry about number of attempts.

Private college degree is not an issue to apply for Indian Administrative Service (IAS). You should not be worried at all. If your college comes under Delhi University (DU) then it is definitely recognized.

Since it is recognized college there is nothing to worry about. There is no provision by the Union Public Service Commission which could prevent correspondence, distance education etc degree holders from applying for the Civil Services Examination.

Which means that you are eligible provided you are meeting all the requirements for the Civil Services Examination. Please see the eligibility criteria for the Civil Services Examination below and if you are eligible then wait till the next notification is issued by the UPSC.

Only after the notification you will be able to apply for the Civil Services Examination. It is most likely to be issued in early part of 2014.

IAS Eligibility

1. Nationality: A citizen of India is eligible.

2. Qualification: Bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement.

3. Marks: There is no minimum requirement.

4. Age Limit: 21 on the lower side.

5. Age Limit: 30 years is the upper age limit.

6. Relaxation: 3 years relaxation for OBC.

7. Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST.

8. Physical Requirements: There are no requirement.

Number of Attempts

1. General - 4

2. OBC - 7

3. SC/ST - There is no limit.

Selection Procedure

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Interview
