Hi,
Can someone please advise me if there will be a company who will be willing to sponsor me? I am a girl 21years of age, completed 12th Science with an aggregate of 55% in PCM. I am eligible as per IMU criteria but, many shipping companies have a more stringent eligibility criteria. I am VERY interested in joining merchant navy and also, this career perfectly fits the type of person that I am. Also, I am a very hard working person and physically fit. Will they sponsor me if I approach them? Usually most of the advertisements ask for candidates with a minimum of 60% in PCM and an age group of 17 to 20yrs. Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

Merchant Navy

You can join the merchant navy either after completion of 12th standard or after Marine engineering. Since you have not mentioned the stream taken in engineering. If you have pass only the 12standard then you will need to join on the deck side.
The applicant with a B.E or B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Technology Engineering can join the Merchant navy as an Engine Cadet, Fifth Engineer or as a Junior Engineer.
There are various entrance exams like IGNOU, IIT - JEE etc. which you need to appear for. Then there will be a one year training. After completing your sea time for the next post as the 2nd mate also there are exams which you need to clear. For each post there will be exams which
you need to clear to become a Captain. However the marks you have scored in both 12th and graduation is less. You need to have at least a 50%.

Eligibility/age limit:- Both unmarried male and female candidates; age
should not be more than 20 years (on 1st September of the entry year) are eligible. those belonging to the SC/ST have this rule relaxed by about 5 yrs.

Academic Qualification:- Candidates should complete 10+2 system or
equivalent, having passed Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as elective subjects.

The minimum eligibility for Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics.

You should also have to pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

If you wish to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy, you need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before gaining admission to the field.

You should have strong inner self and tough physical form, along with a sporting, adaptive and adjustable attitude.

There are so many good jobs available for marine engineers.........

You can get the job of a deck officer, captain or master of the ship, chief officer, second officer, third officer, marine engineers, chief engineer, radio officer, electrical officer, chief steward, diver, light keepers, nautical surveyors and many more.....

You will also get promotion here.
