you have to appear for IES which is conducted by UPSC once a year. it is a two stage exam. you can find more details in www.upsc.gov.in.

There are mainly three post for engineers in Railway that is Junior engineer, assistant engineer and exchange officer/ engineer. For getting these jobs you must need to give entrance exam . The entrance test conducted by UPSC.
